New Super Black Music: “I’m Not Sure What This IS About”

Aryu Jassika

Super Black Tapes has come through with yet another super banging releases. “I’m Not Sure What This Is About” by South African music producer Aryu Jassika is a much more different approach to the ever so loved sound of Gqom music. One may ask isn’t this hard techno? Others may say its minimal house music and some may conclude this is Future Gqom. Well it matters not , it’s just music and interpretations of it will always be different.

The title on it’s own leaves you questioning yourself a bit but with just two tracks you its impact on you is instance. “Ja Exse”  greets with a heavy thumping tech kick side plated with a snare type of sound which seems to have a mind of its own floating in the middle of it all phasing in and out of a cut off reverberated state with its pitch fluctuating from high to low as it works cohesively with all the additional elements warm pads, synths and stabs. Which grow with the suspense of the track. This one is really bound to get you moving and dancing to it. It is followed by  “Coughing” which keeps theme, with its broken type of kick pattern it also gives a alternative thought to what Gqom music is but more so what Gqom music can be. Entirely it carries a outer space vibe feeling hazy and more trance like, hypnotic if you listen to it in a unaware state.

On “I’m Not Sure What This Is About”  you can fall in love with it quickly or let it grow on you the more you listen to it. Though if you are House music lover you are bound to find something to your liking between the two.
